Wonderful trail with nice lakes and a waterfall. Moderate difficulty, and we took the shortcut down, which was very steep and slippery (walking sticks recommended).

First approx. half mile is steep up, then becomes easier to walk, largely through forest with not many scenic views. It's a beautiful walk though, especially if you wish to get away a bit from the beaten track/cruise ship traffic in the town. This trail provides comfortable hiking except perhaps the last bit down to Reid Falls and back, where it becomes a little climb but not serious. You can do this hike in around 3 hours from/to Skagway harbor. If you wish to extend, you can add the trail to Lower Dewey Lake. Together, these trails fit into a day easily - we did both while our cruise ship docked in Skagway. If you have to pick just one, I recommend Lower Dewey Lake over Icy Lake trail - it's more scenic and rewarding views, a bit easier walking and a tick shorter, too. But both are beautiful.
