this has a pleasant gradual incline to start with switchbacks. towards the top it gets steep for the last ~1000-1500 FT of elevation gain. i slipped a few times coming down in areas with loose gravelly rocks in the steep section. there was 2 small patches of snow to cross. it's not bad but got my feet slightly wet. overall, awesome hike.

One of my favorite hikes in Alaska. Amazing views. Great switchbacks most of the way up. Moderate/hard level. Must go all the way to the top, so worth the views!

May 1, 2020 Switch back or straight option was awesome great for groups with different abilities. Straight up is pretty steep hard hike for the beginning of season but views are worth it. Windy on top as usually for mountains and some parts of the trail were muddy and snowy.

The trail is not very scenic until you hit closer to the top. Overall, a decent trail for a quick day trip.

5-1-20 The trail was fine without spikes. There were some snowy and muddy patches, but they’re doable with normal shoes. The hike seems to have two trails. One with gradual switch backs and a steep one. At first we thought the steep trail was just being made by hikers starting a new trail so we didn’t go on it. Then one section of the steep trail had wooden steps and was maintained so we thought it was fine to go up. Most Alaska hikes are pretty steep. The switchback trails would make it a much easier climb if you want to take that route. Even if you can’t make it the whole way there’s lots of pretty view points along the way that make it worth it.

Debating on going back and doing it sometime soon to experience it with more snow but I can see it being a tough trail if its covered without recent footprints near the top. I did this about 2 months ago and it was one of my favorite hikes I've ever done. You cant beat the solitude this time of year and it was defenitely one of those feelings where the hard work to the top was beyond worth it. You could stop and not go all the way to the top and still have an amazing view.

Easy switch backs the first 2.5 miles. Gets really steep and sliding over loose shale before the summit. But awesome views and totally worth it.

This was a tough one for me especially towards the peak because it gets steep with loose rocks. Thankfully there’s switchbacks most of the way and the views are spectacular. There are some overgrown patches in the middle of the trail, didn’t see any bears, much of the trail is shaded and there’s weren’t many bugs.

The view from the top is the best in the 10 hikes we were able to do on our 10 day vacation. Breathtaking views of Turnagain arms. If I had to do one hike in Anchorage this would be it. The switchbacks are gentle with a step climb at the end. Saw mountain goats on way down. Climbing poles helped on the decent. Do it!!

Excellent trail with some sweeping vistas of Turnagain Arm. Lots of wildflowers on the numerous switchbacks. Cool views of Anchorage and the Arm. Good beers at the base. Mountain goats on occasion.

Still very snowy, made it about 100 yards from the peak but didn't feel comfortable continuing through the snow. Views were incredible from where we were anyway and will definitely head back when the snow melts a bit more!

Absolutely gorgeous views in all directions at the top of this. We could see all the way to Denali, spur, down the arm, and into the Kenai mtns. Note that if you follow the switchbacks this hike is significantly longer than advertised. Almost 9 miles according to my recording.

Beautiful hike; trail has nice switchbacks with moderate incline; be prepared for weather tho because the base may be hot an the closer you get to the summit it gets windy and cold. the trail gets steeper the last mile or so but the veiw is well worth it

Outstanding hike. A good distance with moderate effort needed, but overall it's pretty pleasurable, and has great views of the North side of The Turnagain Arm. It was a warm (58°F) day with the sun out, clear mostly, with high visibility, but the Arm started to get cloudy when I reached the summit. Girdwood showers headed south and met me on the drive back. At the peak when it's clear you can see all the Chugach Peaks on the north side of Turnagain Arm (McHugh, N/S Suicide, Bird Ridge etc.. see the mountains near you on the Southside of Turnagain Arm, and even over to what starts the Kenai Range and the Kenai Peninsula. You can see the start of the Aleutian chain basically, Susitna, Fire Island, Mt. Foraker, and McKinley/ Denali.

WOW. absolutely amazing hike with incredible views. My boyfriend and I have gone on quite a few in the last week, and this one is our favorite! The trail was well kept, but it did get mucky in some areas where the snow was still melting. I imagine it gets reallllly muddy after a good rain, so be aware. Also, there are a couple trail options: a windy switchback, and a straight uphill scramble that starts about 1/3 of the way in. We took the scramble up and the switchbacks down, which worked pretty well! 10/10 would recommend.
