Gull Rock Trail is a 10.2 mile out and back trail located near Hope, Alaska and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from May until October.
One more correction.....the correct map for this trail is with the Bull Rock listing?!
Nice hike, but my prior review needs correction.....the hike from new trailhead parking (before campground) is 11.7 miles round trip, and takes about 5 hours.
The trailhead parking for this hike has been moved outside the campground which has added distance, elevation, and time to the hike. Gull Rock hike is now 13.5 miles and takes about five and a half hours (round trip).
Hiked out to Gull Rock for an overnight backpacking trip with some friends. the trail was well maintained with little elevation gain. we found multiple spots to camp once out on the point, with a good water source about 1/4 mile before the point. The views were spectacular and offered 270 degree viewing of the inlet. We were told that bears frequent the trail so we made sure to bring along our AK bear spray (12 ga w/slugs). Nice short hike to complete in a day or for overnight trips, would recommend as a warm-up or first time backpacking trail as it requires minimal conditioning and you are relatively close to the Hope campground.
