Bold Ridge Trail is a 4.9 mile out and back trail located near Chugiak, Alaska. The trail is rated as difficult and is primarily used for hiking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Bold Ridge Hike, Eklutna is located near Knik River, Alaska. The trail is great for hiking and normally takes 1-3 hours. The beginning of this trail is located at about 4-4.5 miles down Eklutna Lake Trail, just after the bridge that crosses Bold River and runs into the lake.
Bring bear protection, bug protection, and rain protection. If it is toward the end of the summer expect to see berries of assorted kinds off the trail.
We walked the 5 miles from the lot to the Bold Ridge trailhead. One mile up the trail we saw a black bear 30 meters from the trail coming towards us. Thick brush and overgrown. At two miles it was impassable- have to walk around/alongside the trail. I would skip this trail and instead rent a bike at the entrance and ride the 11 miles to the end of Eklutna Lake. Stop for scenic views along the way. Or walk it. Bikes and kayaks to rent- gorgeous.
