This is a consistently steep and scenic trail up to a set of glacial lakes. The trail gets rocky as you traverse up along the ridge to the first peak with great views of the lakes below as well as willow on one side and the Mat-Su Valley down the other. The trail continues up the ridge until you reach the top. This point is roughly 1,000 feet in elevation gain from the starting point at Hatcher Pass.

On a clear day you might catch a view of Denali and Foraker if you're lucky! the ridge line views are just beautiful. it took us two and a half hours there and back.

great easy hike

Really enjoyed this trail. I’m not sure what I was thinking it would be like, maybe more rolling into a bowl or a valley but it’s a climb up to the top of hatch peak. The first half up until the lake easily switchbacks and then after it gets harder but still not overly difficult. There is some rock scrambling, watch your step. The views from the top are 360 degrees in every direction you look, just beautiful! It took us 2 hours 33 mins We stopped for lots of pictures! Would do again and would recommend to others!

Awesome hike with amazing views. Very busy trail on the first part to the lakes and snow, but once you start up the steeper/rocky part you get much more solitude. Took the trek down the opposite side which cut the time/distance at least in half! Don't think you could pick your way "up" this way though, it's all rocky/boulders, but it's definitely an alternate way back down rather than going back down the same way you went up.

Beautiful views and fair balance of easy walking and challenging incline towards the top. The view you get of the matsu valley and bowl are absolutely stunning.

Very pretty and scenic! I loved hiking this trail because it was fairly short and very rewarding.

Love it that you can see the whole trail, great for those that dont want to run into moose or bear. Beautiful views and can be extended to follow the ridgeline down the other side, if desired!

Incredible views! Definitely one of my favorite hikes! People were still even sledding down the mountain on July 13, 2018!

beautiful alpine vistas. Well deliniated trail. Was pretty windy along the top 1/3 of the trail. We went on Friday the 13th and managed to avoid mishaps.

Great hike for the whole family. Several stopping points along the way or go to the top to enjoy the views. We love glissading so this is a fun hike in early July.

Hiked up and skied down in Late September. No snowpack and lots of core shots, wouldn’t recommend doing it that early.
