Smokerise and Sugar Tree Trail Loop is a 3.4 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Huntsville, Alabama that features a great forest setting and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Forgot to record the hike until half way in, but it’s a nice hike with cool rock formations. Lots of rocks and with the leaves it can be very slick on a wet day. The trails aren’t as well marked as others and assume it will only become more challenging to find the trail as more leaves fall. The elevation gain is challenging but doable. Since the land trust parking lot on Cecil Ashburn is now open we started in the middle of the loop. The new parking area at the land trust is very nice with lots of parking and a great overlook of the city.
Some great views and some really great riding but had some difficulty following parts of the trail and some parts where I had to carry my bike
