Getting There

The trailhead is at the end of a dirt road marked 603A. Road 603A is accessible from Trammel Motorway. The trail itself is well maintained though there are many downed trees in the area. It follows forest road 675 for a short period about 2.5 miles in. The major climb between 2 and 4.5 miles is fairly gentle, using switchbacks, and tops out at a campsite in a saddle. There is little to no water along the trail for the first 4 miles.

Coming from the South, road 603A is on the right (east) about 1.3 miles down Trammel Motorway. You can drive your car about 0.5 miles down the road to the trail head, but there are some ditches in the dirt road that may be difficult for a low clearance car to pass. You can easily park 3 or 4 cars at the start of Road 603A and then hike down the dirt road to the trail head.

Did Bulls Gap to the Cell Tower 4/2, apprx 7 miles round-trip a really smooth easy go wide trail. Lots of wildflowers starting to bloom . Several nice overlooks and camping spots with nearby water.

HikingBlowdown

We drove down the dirt road to the signboard at the trailhead. We only hiked in about 3 miles and then hiked back out. There was a little bit of blowdown across the trail but generally the trail was in good conditions. No water along this section. Also bugs/spider webs weren’t a problem.

Section 3. Really pretty hike around Rebecca Mountain. Not too strenuous for the Pinhoti

Pretty good trail. Only went 4 miles in and it was covered for the whole time. No really great views up on the ridge, but just a nice nature trail.

Hiking

My partner, dog, and I did the first 4 miles of this trail and then hiked back to our car, so we can only comment on that section. The trail is accessible from Trammel Motorway via a dirt forestry road marked 603A. We parked at the head of the dirt road and hiked about half a mile down it to the trail head, which had a sign board and is well marked with Pinhoti light blue blazes. The trail was in good condition with just a few downed trees. The views along the incline up to the peak around 4.5 miles are beautiful, though the trail doesn't get up on the ridge for optimal views until you pass through the saddle at 4.5 miles.

First to Review

This was a great hike with lots of varied terrain and flora. The Longleaf Pine stand in the early part was a treat. Much of the trail was easy, but a few short steep climbs and the length makes me say it was moderate in difficulty. We took two cars and dropped one off at the Bull’s Gap Trailhead then drove the other to the start at Trammell. 11.8 miles and never saw anyone else. Clearly not used much. Great hike - recommended.
