This is an excellent local resource trail. It is part of the Bon Secour national wildlife refuge. It is basically a gravel paved road, with placards that describe the local foliage and ponds. It is well marked and not crowded at all. I would recommend it in the cooler months. Pets are not allowed. It starts from a wooded area with beautiful live oaks to a Perfect terminus at the Gulf of Mexico with a white sand beach and no one in sight. Enjoy the solitude!

Great trail. Beautiful views, well marked and very well maintained. Last 1/4 mile or so is sand/dunes but worth the effort for an amazing secluded beach view. Parking at trailhead is adequate and well marked. Saw several larger crabs and birds. Another hiker reported in passing seeing a water moccasin but we didn’t see any snakes during our run.

Average Trail. It is more of a car path with a little trail sections. The trail is more towards the side trails. Great walk though. Took about an hour.

Very nice trail. It is well kept and passes by several cool areas. It’s a great place to visit to see different habitat types. You can also see some really cool wildlife throughout the trail.

Great walk for a cloudy day at the beach! Many beautiful spots for picture taking and a great example of the diverse types of terrain found here on the Southern Coast.

A very nice trail with a beautiful beach setting at the end. Bathroom facilities along the way and park benches as well. I would rate this hike a more of a moderate hike. Mainly because of the length and the sand dunes at the end. Make sure you have hydration with you. Especially in summer and late spring. Can get very warm!

Nice trail, easy walk. A lot of birding opportunities. We saw four osprey nests with young and the beach was empty! Pretty nice in such a populated area.

Our family had a great time on this trail. It is beautiful and the beach at the end is a perfect reward for the walk. We had four kids from age 6-9, and they were all able to make the trip.

Pretty mild hike down a gravel road that winds through the gulf forest. Really neat lookout point with benches and small tower. Leads to a very private beach in the gulf. A little challenging for children under 6. Will definitely be taking this hike again!

Nice walk of about 4 miles round-trip. Easy, flat mostly along a dirt/gravel road. Enjoyable

Very easy trail until the last 1/4 mile or so, then you are walking through beach sand the rest of the way. Totally worth it thought because you end at a stretch of beach that is mostly deserted. Great place to visit if you are in the Gulf Shores area and want to escape the crowded public beaches.

Kid friendly, no dogs. Beautiful scenery and you end up at the beach! One of my favorites. When I take my little one, this is usually where we go.

There was no sign with map of Trails or Destination Points. We walked down gravel road a ways and turned around.

Wasn’t sure what I was getting into but through the woods through sand dunes you pop out at your own beach.. crystal clear water and to top it all off..dolphins swim just off the shore!!! This was a great hike and gets you away from the crowds of people in gulf shores!!

Hiked this morning. Easy trail till you get to the sand dunes. Ditch the footwear and walk barefoot to the beach unless you want to throw sand everywhere.

We did a ruck here with our crossfit buddies & it was a blast! Heavy backpacks made this trail a little more strenuous. Very pretty easy trail to the beach!

The trail is in excellent condition. Plenty of places to stop and rest. The only negative I can give it is it’s very tough on fair skin on a sunny day!!! There is no cover for most of it. About half way there are restrooms available. Of course the beach view is breathtaking. The walk to the beach is not for folks that are out of shape.

Really fun easy walk! Great for kids! No dogs. Lots of sand toward the end so wear tall socks or go barefoot.

WALKED THIS TRAIL SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IVAN IN 2000-TO 2004, THEN IVAN PUSHED ALOT OF SALT WATER INTO THE FRESHWATER -GATOR LAKE, IT DID SOME DAMAGE TO THE ECO SYSTEM BUT I HAVE HEARD ITS BACK TO NORMAL, I AM FROM MOBILE AND LIVED IIN THE GULF SHORES AREA FOR 10 YEARS. I HAVE NOT HIKED THE BEACH TRAIL SINCE 2007 0R 2008 BUT ALL HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL FROM THE PICS I HAVE SEEN. I LOVE THE PRIVATE BEACH DOWN FROM GATOR LAKE, ..IF YOU WANT A GREAT PLACE TO LAY OUT AND SWIM IN PRIVATE TAKE THIS TRAIL, YOU MAY SEE AN OCCASIONAL HIKER BUT THATS ALL, BEFORE IVAN GATOR LAKE HAD SOME GOOD FISSHING, NOT SURE NOW

This was a great hike and provided a very different experience than a forest or woods trail. But the last quarter mile or so was very sandy which made for a fairly strenuous hike that led to a secluded beach. There were 2 side trails off this trail. Gator lake trail was a strenuous mile long and very sandy. But the Centennial trail was easier and extremely enjoyable. All the trails are out and back and total 11 miles round trip

Was enchanted by this very different (when you think of hikes/trails you think of forest and mountains automatically) walk. It was sublime. So much diversity in scenery and vegetation with a wonderful isolated beach finish. Two days later I did the Centennial trail that is just off of Pine Beach Trail for 6 miles (when you also do Jeff Friend). Outstanding trails.

The first mike was a nice gravel road through timber and swamps, and the last mile was next to the lagoon, alligator lake and then a wonderful beach.

I definitely shouldn't have worn flip flops on this walk!! it was a very sandy trail, but in the fall there are a lot of beautiful flowers and butterflies. Sadly didn't see any Gators!

There are four trails in this refuge. I've hiked Pine Beach and Gator Lake. March is a great time to go especially if you enjoy photography without the annoyance of crowds invading your shot. Trails are short and easy with some stunning scenery along the way.
