Some iffy cliff side hiking for a beginner or younger kids. Some pretty overgrown parts at the top. But fun nonetheless :)

Plenty of other trails branch off and loop back so you can extend this hike if you wish. It’s the most populous and the best one at Ruffner. Be sure to stop and hike down into or around the quarry, because it’s arguably more impressive and fun to explore than the actual overlook. The two of these combined make this hike well worth it.

Overall a great trail. Trail markers are a bit faded and the loop around the quary seemed a little unused making me think that it may be a closed trail, however there was no fallen tree on the trail, so I assumed it was still open. Take caution when doing the quary loop. Extremely narrow and smooth rocks paired with a 50ft drop may be risky on a wet day.

Sometimes confusing, especially in the quarry, but all in all a pretty good trail. It was not super difficult, okay views, pretty doable in an afternoon if you don’t get lost along the way.

Great trail even for a cold, windy 35 degree weather day mid January. Went to Cambrian Overlook and the other Overlook past that. Brought hot coffee and a PB&J and sat at the top overlook to have a snack. Wonderful time!

Being from Birmingham makes this hike even better. I can still enjoy nature while also being close to home! The trail is filled with flowers and unique creatures! The quarry view is gorgeous but my favorite view is the one of downtown. Super cool.

Great Hike, lots of trail options to go as long and as far as you want. Hiking with group of Boy Scouts and Siblings, the trail was good for all ages.

Great trail! Take Possum Loop to circle the quarry to see several great overlooks and to access the quarry itself.

Walked this trail with my 16 year old son...the quarry was a nice reward. The trail is not too difficult but there are plenty of ways to go off trail and make it harder. Very clean, free from trash.

Ruffner Mtn. Has a lot of great trails, and it is hard to believe you are in the middle of a 1.1 million person metro area when you are on them. The quarry trail isn't difficult, but there are a lot of nooks and crannies to explore once there (the quarry). Be forewarned: you will wondered why every post-apocalyptic movie isn't shot in BHAM while on the quarry floor.

This is a sweet trail. Be careful on the back side of the quarry if you go that way.

Great trail for a day hike. Easy and enjoyable. Would go again. Still a lot left to explore on the trail. Safe and not super busy.

There's nothing quite like a true nature hike in the middle of a city. The sunset from the quarry is incredible.

The perfect loop to do in 2 hours with a dog! We loved the view of Birmingham and the incredible quarry. Lots of friendly hikers were enjoying the beautiful fall Sunday, but the trail never seemed crowded.
