Oak Mountain State Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $5/adult, $2/child, and $2 for seniors. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $180. Easy to follow andn definitely very strenuous in some areas. Several great views, make sure to watch trail markers.
A little wet due to recent rains. Some water crossings were more difficult because of the recent rain.
Going up the white trail is steep and rocky. Great breeze up top. Great hike in the winter so you can see the view.
A fun little hike! Lots of variation in the trails, from flat water views to some rocky climbs up on the ridge. We used the white-red connector because the red road trail is pretty boring and full of mountain bikers.
I stayed at the cabins near the lake over the weekend for an Ultra marathon race. After completing the race I took a shower and spend some time seating on a bench by the lake. It was so peaceful and relaxing. check out some of the pics on IG @Suave_Mentality and follow me for more cool places to hike.
Awesome! This trail has a lot of variety. It starts off with a nice walk around Tranquility Lake. It then goes up a mountain and has a great view at “Indian Lookout.” Overall, it is well-marked and is clear of fallen trees.
Spectacular day for a hike. The trails are marked well and this app makes it so easy to follow. Steep at points- earns the moderate designation.
This is a tale of two trails. You take the yellow trail which follows a lake and is a nice little hike. When you reach the white trail to start the loop you have a choice to go left or right. We went right and immediately starting climbing 800 ft or so up to the top of the ridge. The next hour or so was tough hiking. Lots of root stairs, scrambling up rocks, pretty steep at times. Good stuff. After reaching the peak, we took the orange trail till it connected to the red road. This trail then becomes pretty tame. Lots of fist sized rocks on the red road to mess with your footing but nothing too taxing. If you take the red/white connector, it looked like it climbed up the ridge again and that would probably keep you under six miles. We stayed on red till the red/yellow connector. We finished at 7.2 miles. Great trail but earns its moderate rating in the first half.
Excellent hike with great views of lake and other vistas. 7.4 mile loop.
Followed the Yellow Trail to Maggie's Glen then picked up the White Trail to the Cabins and then back around the lake to the parking area.
Easy to follow. definitely very strenuous in areas. Several great views, watch trail markers. I got off at end and it cost me extra walking.
Trail was in excellent condition. We hiked with our 5 and 6 year-olds in tow and it was only slightly challenging for them. It’s a great dry run for the longer backcountry trips.
This is a great trail. Was tenting in backcountry site #4 which has easy access to pitch your tent and get set up then head out on the trails. Started on yellow/white then took white. Did a red on Boulder Ridge which was amazing. Don’t know how bikes can do that one so kudos to anyone whose done it. Not a very well marked trail and almost missed the connecting trails. The white takes you along the ridge and had rough terrain and great views. I took the yellow down to Tranquility Lake. Hiked a total of 9 miles with the last 2.5 in the dark using a flashlight. No moonlight as it was cloudy. Tranquility Lake in the dark of night was breathtaking and peaceful. Took time to just sit and enjoy the night sounds with the glow of the cabins across the lake. I hate that I missed the scenery following the trail along the lake so guess I’ll have to just do it again. Picked up on the Orange trail back to my tent. Highly recommend spending a few nights tenting in backcountry. Tent site #2 looked like a great spot and was close to the lake. It is a bit of a hike to that location but plan on renting that site next time.
