First of all, this is a canoe trail. You get there by boat, kayak, or canoe. Second, the actual trailhead is not marked well but a novice can still find it. No need for sunscreen because you are under a beautiful canopy of delta lands most of the trip. The two Indian mounds are quite more than a bump but rather large mounds covered in a centuries worth of large growth. Beautiful trail through the Mobile delta. I would recommend. Just be forewarned, you will be in nature in its natural form. There are alligators, snakes, among other wildlife but that’s the point isn’t it?

First off the only way to get to the Indian mound trail head by boat. I researched and found a boat ramp about 6-7 miles away through canal after canal and a couple of wide river openings. The paddle at times was through what seemed billion year old swamp water and though I wouldn't want to swim in it i still saw it's beauty. The trail head is hard to spot by canoe/kayak, it's best to bring a water proof map and look for the "big left bend" Through some cat tail and high grass you can see a bit of an opening. The trail was unkept and we saw 6 snakes on our walk from river to mound. Never got close enough to see what kind of snake, minded my business and ran like a little kid. The mound is covered in old growth hardwoods and is a "bump" through the woods. On top was a small sign saying it was federal protected and to not remove anything from the area. Overall great fun in the mobile delta. Saw snakes, gators, turtles, fish and a million year old Indian mound in the middle of a swamp. If you want an adventure off the beaten path and a great story to tell. Go do this.
