The hike to Maggies Glen from the North Trailhead in Oak Mtn State Park is an excellent hike for beginners or for a family that wants to enjoy a Sunday afternoon. This particular hike should only take an hour or two. You start the hike at the North Trailhead and walk a couple of hundred yards up the North Trailhead to the sign which marks the direction to Maggies Glen. You then follow the white trail towards Maggies Glen. The hike at this point is fairly level and quite relaxing. After traveling approximately a mile (the midpoint of the hike) you will be rewarded by reaching Maggies Glen. The Glen offers a great point to stop and rest. The Glen has benches which were built by a Boy Scout for his Eagle Scout project and has a lovely stream which produces very relaxing sounds as it flows over rocks in the area.

Took my kids - ages 3 and 6 - on this trail yesterday and we loved it. A good part of it runs right by a creek and the scenery was beautiful. Saw a good bit of wildlife too including fish, a woodpecker, frogs, and yes, even a baby snake. It’s summer in Alabama so just keep alert. Definitely give this one a thumbs up if you’re looking for a good family friendly trail.

A great hike! Not too steep, not too long, plenty wide, a great family hike! A 4K GoPro time warp video of the trail at HikingAlabama.com I recommend downloading the AllTrails map. There are several trails that intersect with this route. I was buzzed several times by the app for taking the wrong trail. I wish there was a push notification like this when I’m chatting with my wife! Bzzz, you are out of line, don’t go there!

Beautiful hike among the fall leaves! The yellow trail is a little bit of a climb, it will get the heart rate up. White trail back is an easy hike. We hiked this trail many years ago and it is still as beautiful as we remembered. We will hike it again, maybe in the spring.

Easy hike in along the white blaze. The hike out is more moderate up the yellow blaze, but it wasn’t too bad.

Great hike with the boys. White Trail section was very flat and easy going. Yellow trail coming back had a few good climbs. Want to come back in the fall/winter when the leaves have dropped.

Nice trail, but not really “that” easy...should be rated as “moderate”

My favorite loop in the park! I do this one weekly with my dogs and an occasional kid/wife. Very serene and pretty walking the narrow trail among the pine trees along the ridge on yellow heading towards the glen. The yellow trail down into the glen can be difficult, especially after a rain slickens the groundcover, but the glen is a nice, cozy oasis in the woods for sure. The white trail leading back to the North Trailhead is much less hilly, although, watch your footing leaving the glen on white trail along the creek. It is a bit rocky and precarious for a short while until you get onto the flat, level trail. It is especially nice not having to dive off the trail as mountain bikers fly by - they shouldn’t be on this trail at all.
