Lost Sink Trail is a 3.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Paint Rock, Alabama that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
This is a great trail to hike. There are enough uphill treks to keep it challenging but not so much that it's brutal. The waterfall does not disappoint! The trail continues past the waterfall and becomes a simple, easily walked dirt path through the woods. The official trail ends just past a rocky stream bed, but a path continues. I didn't explore it further. I will definitely come back!
beautiful greenway along the shannon river with solar lighting and an outdoor gym.
I followed the trail up above the falls for the first time and enjoyed it. There is a stream a little bit higher. Very nice. I didn’t go to the end of the trail because there was a big branch across the trail so it was a good time to turn around.
The first 1.3 miles of the hike are the best part and lead to the Lost Sink Falls, which are incredible during the rainy season when there is plenty of water. These are probably the highest falls in the Huntsville Area, and they are just as spectacular as the Bethel Springs Falls. The AllTrails route for the Lost Sink Trail continues on for another mile past the falls, and dead ends at a creek, but this upper section is much less interesting than the stretch up to the falls.
We went right after a hard rain so the waterfall and top flow were raging. Awesome hike
It was a windy day so the wind in the trees sounded like the waterfall the whole way up. I looked at the map at one point and was disappointed that I was only half way up the trail when I rounded the corner and saw the falls. I forgot that I have never gone all the way to the end of the trail and the falls is half way up. I use the trail for endurance training because of all the elevation.
Beautiful plants and some steep climbs that reward you will flat steps a while. The falls are gorgeous. Lots of wildlife. Lots of rock formations.
There’s a few paths that go off the main trail so the use of the digital map was helpful. Some good stretches of elevation for a cardio workout.
on the harder side of moderate. gorgeous waterfall at the 1.2 mile mark.
Would be 4 stars if it stopped at the falls. But it doesn’t. So it’s 3. Go to the falls and turn around. Nothing of value beyond them. Falls are really nice if there is some water flowing.
Awesome hike with beautiful water fall flowing today. Highly recommend going after a nice rain, it’s worth the muddy condition due to the fact that this trail is muddy regardless most of the time.
