This trail was very busy during the Covid-19 quarantine and you had to wait your turn for viewing the overlook and on the swinging bridge that leads to the tree house platform. The signs were a bit confusing! When you enter the trailhead we stayed to the right. We were turned around on the way out and took an easier trail (road) out.

I was impressed by this hike. I had heard lukewarm things about Red Mountain but this hike was varied, with inclines, declines, rocky and woody terrain. Could see it getting fairly muddy after rain, but on a nice day it’s beautiful. There’s some ropes courses off to the side and you’re never too far from civilization so it’s not exactly a secluded getaway and it leans more towards a walk at certain points. But still very enjoyable and really dog friendly. The overlook is both good and bad, the view is marred by industrial buildings and power lines and a road so again this isn’t exactly a wilderness hike. But it’s nice and it’s satisfying. Solid.

Great easy hike. Brought the dog with us with no issues at all. The history behind Red Mountain is amazing.

Nice hike with Summer and Erin. Cool tree swing bridge. Lookout wasn’t the best, but overall a pleasant hike.

Dog friendly trail with plenty of room to pass the other pups, trail is clay so water logged in areas even when it hasn’t rained in several. Neat walkover bridge at the top!

Great trail that end at a dramatic and beautiful view of Birmingham. Took a different route than map, adding trail#5 which adds complexity.

Easy to moderate hike with historic mines along the way. The route featured really wide trails which became more interesting at times. Great overlook with views of the city.

All the trails on Red Mountain are really nice. The only issue we had was that we noticed quite a number of “trail brownies” laying around. If your going to bring your dog with you, pick up after them. People want to look at the scenery, not have to look out for what your dog left behind.

I really like the Ike Matson Trail and the Ridge trail. The rest kinda felt like a road walk

Part of this route is the wide “road” type trails circling this park. But the other half is typical trails. Just enough elevation for a quick morning excursion. Pretty view of downtown Birmingham at the overlook.

Parking was crowed but there are so many trails that it was not crowded once we started hiking. Interesting area, trails were easy and well marked. Lots of trails crisscrossing did get a little confusing. Trails are numbered so paper map would help. Good area for exercise if you live nearby

Hiked this trail last weekend and enjoyed every minute of it! We planned on only doing the 4 mile hike on the other side of the park and ended up at Grace’s Gap Overlook making it a total of 10 miles! We will definitely be back!

Mostly just old mining roads. There are some incredibly interesting things in the park. Old mines, confidence courses, tree houses with swinging bridges. The cutoff trails are really nice but the main “trails” are lots of gravel road walking.
