Flagg Mountain via CC Camp Trail

Great moderate hike. Beautiful scenery. Storm damage down trees have been cleaned. Be prepared to cross a small stream with a small step down and up.

It was a short but nice hike overall. You spend a brief time in the woods but you get to go to the tower. The tower is closed which is a shame because you would get a 360 degree view of the area. You do get to hike a part of the Pinhoti trail but most of this hike is along the road. You can peek through the trees to get some beautiful views. I deviated along the trail to make it longer as 1.5 miles is not much of a hike.

Great place for hiking, good mix of elevation. Cell service is spotty, so plan accordingly. Tree foliage wasn't fully developed, which allowed glimpses of the surrounding ridges. Best view is from the Tower looking northeast towards the Ranger's cabin.

Don't rely on your GPS bc there's no service on the road there, keep an eye out on Hwy 55 for Weogufka Forest Road or something like that. Take the road to the top, the loop starts at the Pinhoti South Trailhead, which is technically the southern tip of the AT, but it would literally take an act of congress to call it that. The trail is nice, quiet, good mix of elevations, scenery, trail type, etc. You only cross one stream on the loop so bring water, but as it's a short loop you'll be fine with a bottle. My only complaint is there's really no good view, despite being on a prominence. The hilltop is cleared and there are cabins and a ranger station, but trees block views out over the surrounding flat land. The caretaker up there is Sunny Eberhart, aka Nimblewill Nomad. If that doesn't ring a bell, he wrote a book about the 4,800 mile Everglades-to-Canada trail he pioneered. It was on the table in the ranger station and I recognized him on the cover as the guy I saw on an ATV earlier. I went to find him and we chatted about long-distance hiking and the grounds. He's got a long white beard, say hey if you see him.

What a TREASURE!! This place is beautiful and well maintained. There are several options with roughly 10 or more miles of trails to create loops or just wander around. Lots of picnic areas along the trail system and numerous options in cabins or shelters. Be sure and drive up to the CCC cabins to park and talk to Sunny, who watches over the place and is a most endearing and gracious character. He knows the mountain inside and out and can help you decide on a route. Bring some cash and buy a t-shirt from the ranger’s station to support this wonderful endeavor these volunteers have made possible for the public to enjoy.

Had a great time with my family! Road going in- CC camp road is a little rough so be careful if you don’t have an SUV. Trail was a good workout and the tower area is beautiful. The tower itself is locked due to bee/wasp infestation. But the view is still gorgeous and worth seeing. ❤️

Awesome hike with well marked trails, but it isn't well marked on where to park for day use. Off of CC Camp Rd, there's a fork in the road where straight is to the cabins and to the right is the tower and Pinhoti Trail Head. There is another fork when you get to the tower - the tower is to the left and if you follow the road to the right, there is a pavilion about 1 mile down that is perfect for parking and meeting someone. Off the pavilion, you can follow the blue trail. There is a picnic table that's a perfect spot for a post hike snack. Note, these roads are really rough - if you have the option of an SUV or truck, drive that up to your hike.

Great hike and so very pretty. Well marked but no loop. We will definitely go back. Tower access is found off the white path up where the cabins are.

Really nice hike. Nicely marked trails. The fire tower is not on the hike I liked the Loop , not out and back anymore. Enjoyable moderate hike

started at the pinhoti trailhead (blue trail) and then took the fire break (white trail) to the cabins then hiked to the fire tower.

Nice trail and not heavily traveled but well marked. The trail is now a loop and not an out and back. Had a nice afternoon shower on the way back that was refreshing. Flagg Tower is farther up the dirt road than the trailhead. The trail does not access the tower. Better maps would be a plus.

The area in which the trail is located is beautiful. The trail itself is not very difficult --hiked much more strenuous hikes. For a short hike, this was great. Seeing the old log cabins was pretty and sad at the same time. Could have been a wonderful state park. Be sure to stop at the "Old South Store" in Weogufka. Lots of cool stuff in there.
