Coal Mine Falls is a 0.7 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Addison, Alabama that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
It's a easy trail but the trail that goes to the bottom of the falls is pretty steep. Overall it would be a great short trip for a family with kids.
I hiked to the lower falls. It was great because I had it all to myself. Be careful coming down and going back up. Happy hiking!
We hiked to the upper falls. Had fun with my girls today. We were the only ones on the trail.
Great trail with nice waterfall. Winding creek is peaceful and serene
beautiful place nice wide trail real easy hike, steep to get down to the base but my dog and I made it just fine loved it
short hike nice wide trail. steep getting down to the base but worth it beautiful
No water now. Puts you at top of falls. Last 10% of trail is totally unmarked. A couple of trees down. I did not go to the bottom of the falls. It may have been more picturesque. Hard to get to trail on forest road and washed out. Did miss the trailhead and had to turn around. Thank goodness for GPS and Alltrails. O
The trail is not marked. We missed it going in and if another car had not been parked there on the way out, we would have missed it then also. No parking area, just the side of the road. The waterfall was completely dried up even though it had rained the previous four days. The trail was easy except for climbing over two fallen trees. The slopes to the bottom of the waterfall are steep and slick.
This was a long drive to a short hike with a really BIG payoff at the end. There’s not much to the hike in but the waterfall basin at the end is totally worth it. There is a long gravel road to get to the trailhead. Google maps left us about a mile short and on the wrong road. But Waze got us within 100 yards. There is really no place to park. About 40 yards before the trailhead is a pull off “road,” but it will hold a couple of cars. Then walk down to the trailhead. We are a full time RV family of 9 (#findyourcrazyjourney) that does a lot of hiking. Today we had me, the wife, our 8, 9, 11, and 11 year old special needs twins, plus two small dogs. No one had any trouble with the hike but the trail ends at the top of the falls and it is a little bit of a slippery scramble down to the pool. But once your there....wow. We went in April the day after a good rain, so the falls were beautiful. Not much poison ivy, but we did find three ticks on the dogs when we checked before getting into the car, so be sure to check.
