Gorgeous hike with plenty of lake water for your dogs to drink. Well marked and well maintaned trail. I hiked the Alpine Ridge Trail plus Kowaliga Bay trail for around 5 miles in about 2.5 hours (moving pretty quickly without stopping for breaks but without rushing). Some uphill and downhill but nothing strenous compared to hiking in mountainous areas or high elevations.

No restrooms/port-a-potties or trash cans. Pack in pack out. No camping. Lovely views and picnic tables at parking area. Dog friendly.

Hiked this with my sister in the winter after Christmas. It was cold for Alabama but not too bad. Warmed up pretty quick once we got going. It is rated easy to moderate but if you are out of shape (like me) it is hard. Lots of hills and beautiful views. Can't wait to hike it in the summer. Lots of virws of Lake Martin and rocky areas making for a fun and challenging hike. Trails go from 1 mile up to 7.5 miles. Brand new picnic tables and resting area at trail head. Great trail.
