Borden Creek Hiking Trail is a 4.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Haleyville, Alabama that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Great for kids and beginners because there is no hiking over the hills. The trail is very well worn and easily identified. There were many people hiking and some camping along the trail. Parking at the southern end requires a $5 parking fee. When starting at the southern end of the trail do not cross the wooden bridge connecting the 2 parking lots. The southern end of the trail starts at the first parking lot and crosses under the large concrete bridge to the right. The trail follows the creek with beautiful views of the water. There are many rock outcroppings with several rock over hangs with water falls. There is a popular part of the trail called fat man's squeeze - a section of the trail that goes through a rock fall creating a short "cave" section. Large packs will have to be removed to navigate. There are no official permanent campsites. There were many well-worn campsites that could be seen all along the trail. The north end of the trails ends at an old road and bridge crossing over Borden Creek. You can park at both ends and hike one direction. However, the parking at the north end is not located at the north end of the trail. Parking is approximately 0.5 miles up the hill along the closed paved road.

Off of Hwy 195 between Halleyville and Double Springs is the crossroads known as Rabbittown. At Rabbittown there the ubiquitous brown sign for the turn to sipsey wilderness. Follow cranal road (hwy 33) past sipsey wilderness to Bunyan Hill Road. Follow road to the closed bridge over Borden Creek. Trail Sign is on the right side of the road ... trail head is marked to the left and drops down to follow Borden Creek.
Amazing!! A nice mostly easy trail with lots of waterfalls and even a cave you must crawl thru to the other side but nothing scary. A few scrambles and slippery spots. We loved it!!!
Really cool. Lots of waterfalls, a rock cave that the trail goes through, stream crossings. Very cool.
Trail 209 is beautiful and leads to a cavern called Fat Man’s Squeeze. Round trip to and back from the cavern is around 5 miles. Plenty of waterfalls and camping sites along the way. The creek water runs very clear and blue and we drank filtered water from that along the way. We camped one night and hiked out the next morning. It was about an hours hike out from where we camped along side the creek. Just be sure to leave everything the way that you found it.
great trail!!! We only made it to Fatman squeeze so that we could check out another hiking trail close by, but it was a beautiful trail!
Excellent trail, good for running only a few obstacles. Well travelled trail packed and good shoes with decent traction suggested.
Had a blast on this trail but it ended at the Fat's Mans pass inside the cave. I'm a bit claustrophobic so that did it for me. Recording is a bit wonky because we explored the river bed and generally took our time getting back to the trailhead. Easy hike, great views of the water and rocks and I'll be back. Very picturesque.
Lots of pretty scenery with woods, creek, and waterfalls. The cave is cool if you’re not claustrophobic! The trail is about four miles from one end to the other. There are a few tricky spots, but nothing too strenuous. Many stops to explore and admire the woods.
Great trail along Borden Creek. A little muddy and slick next to the creek. Nice waterfalls along the way. Very easy to moderate hike. Mostly flat the whole way.
