This particular walk of SAS Walks starts off at the Mill House car park just before the Newark Mill Bridge. Walk through the car park, crossing over the bridge at the traffic light. Take the roadside pavement towards Pyrford village. Here you will get a good view of Newark Priory set in marsh land. Just before the road bends to the right at Church hill, keep straight on up the woodland footpath to St Nicholas Church. From the Church cross the road taking the stone path through the churchyard. Once though the churchyard continue along the signposted path. After passing along two sets of fields turn right and head towards the corner of a garden that juts out into the field. Keeping the metal fence on your left-hand side you eventually come to a gravel lane. Form here you cross over Warren Lane onto another footpath towards Pyrford Golf Course. Keeping to the singed footpath and watching out for golfers the path continues through the golf course joining at Pyrford Lock next to the Anchor Pub. From the Pyrford lock follow the River Way tow path north bound. Once at Walsham Lock cross over and continue on the towpath. Here the tow path will take you back to Mill house where this walk started from.

Beautiful trail along the river. A cool walk in the summer until you hit the golf course and fields which are without shade. The Anchor pub is a lovely spot to stop for a cool drink and bite to eat almost exactly half way, situated by a lock and a real sun spot. The directions from the lock aren’t easy as the footpaths are overgrown so you need to be inventive on how to get through and back on track. Avoid falling into the muddy ditch is you are attempting to cross though the undergrowth onto the golf course!! Almost lost my other half to the bog - but that’s usual!! Lovely day out and nice and easy for an afternoon stroll with bite to eat.
