Bangkok's Phrapradaeng Loop is a 12.1 kilometer heavily trafficked loop trail located near Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Thailand that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for walking and road biking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
This area across the river is a large expanse of mangrove swamp perfect for exploring by bicycle! Put your adventure hat on and take off into the jungle on a bike. This area - known as the 'green lung' of Bangkok - has a long-standing bylaw that prohibits any tall buildings. As a consequence, it's a lush and peaceful village with tall trees, tons of wildlife and plenty to see. You can rent bikes at the pier, although they can be a bit creaky, so make sure to give it a test ride first. This ride can be done on any day, but it is best done on a weekend when the Talad Bang Nampung market is open.
Buy water at the pier, as there are few convenience marts in the jungle. This tour is not recommended if you're not confident on a bicycle, as the sidewalk-width pathways you'll be riding on are 3 feet above the swamp below and it's pretty yucky down there. About 50% of this trip is on these pathways. If you lose your nerve, you can stick to the main roads and just ride in the general direction of the next point of interest.
This is a once in a lifetime experience, but not for the faint of heart. You are walking a path that has been built in a swamp. The villagers have their houses on stilts, and they use the paths to get in and out of their meager houses. These people are poor, and this path gives you a balcony seat looking into a world you have no part in. I was threatened by dogs at one point, but an unseen voice rang out in a language I didn’t know, and they backed off. And don’t get me started on the “trailhead” in this app. You are so remote that my cabby used my phone gps to get there. With every turn, as the roads turned rough and the dog packs more bountiful, he would ask me was I sure about this. Finding a cab to get out of this place is difficult. But I got lost and wandered into a little village that did have a taxi stand. Thank god! Hey, I say do it. But be prepared in the ways I’ve said.
