Other than summit day most days are actually fairly short in terms of distance travelled. If you've properly trained at altitude you shouldn't have too much difficulty with this trek as altitude sickness is really the only major obstacle(although the descent is pretty tough on the knees even with poles). I powered through and made it all the way to the actual summit, not just the ridge and had sunrise there by myself. Once in a lifetime experience.

Best trail of them all, according to the locals. It was moderately trafficked, great weather for the most part once we made it above the tree line, very interesting vegetation and absolutely stunning views of the Milky Way! Highly recommend Altezza Travel for the experience. Very professional team and great organization. 6 days, 5 nights and everyone summited successfully on September 29, 2019!

7 day Machame Route with Trek2Kili. Highly recommend. Please make sure if you hike this route or others on Kili that you find a company certified by KPAP (Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project) who ensure the safety of the guiding and support teams.

Did this trip late March while the entire world was going crazy. Amazing experience going from rainforest to wide open high alpine areas to windy and snowy on Summit day. Worth every bit of struggle. Then came down and found the world in shambles and the adventure really started trying to find a way home to Montana.

Completed with Kilimanjaro brothers. One of the most amazing experiences of my life. We did an extra day just to get used to the altitude even though we experienced no sickness up to that point. First few days extremely fun and not that strenuous. Summit night very difficult but you will get there and wow is it worth it.

Completed the 6 day 5 night route via Machame with a successful summit on the 29th of February. Was blessed with outstanding weather minus some downpour between Lava Tower and Barranco Camp. Strongly recommend the team from GAdventures, and our CEO Bruno from the Kili Kings

I did this trek in February 2020, and it was a truly majestic experience. The hike took a total of 6 days. The first 4 days are ascending to the base camp and are relatively easy if you are an average hiker, and most importantly a camper. Day 5 is the most hectic and challenging part of the hike. It started at 12 am, so you need to get a good sleep between 7pm-11 pm, I did not to be honest. We started the ascend at 12 am , and there was a strong wind and non-stop snowing all along until the dawn. We reached the summit at 7:30 am, one of the group members could not make it, and another one had severe altitude sickness which slowed us a bit (His POx was 50 %) but was able to reach the top. On the way down, it was relatively easy with the sun melting most of the snow. I took diamox and I think it helped me a lot, but be prepared to stop a lot, and some of the group members may not like it. Descending to base camp took 3-4 hours. Another annoying part of Day 5 is that you have to rest for few hours then descend further to Mweka camp. The last day is super easy, hiking for 3 hours.

Just finished hiking Kili for 7 days via Machame on Jan 26, 20. Thanks to the previous posts for some really helpful info, some of which is to be repeated here. First, take your diamox. Second, go slowly. Follow your guide’s pace and lead. Most of them worked as porters before the worked their way up to be assistant guides, then finally guides, so they know the mountain and what they’re doing. Third, take rain gear and layers. It rains, and sometimes snows, at altitude. The beauty of Kili is you start and and in rainforest, while in the middle trekking through beautiful foliage, moonscape, over small waterways, past innumerable waterfalls, and varied terrains. Take comfortable, waterproof footwear, and make sure your bags are waterproof. Another hiker thought his was only to find out it was not, and he was left with a bag full of wet clothes. Fourth, stay hydrated. Drink lots of water. Most of the stories of those who did not summit involved some level of dehydration, something that can be avoided. Fifth, take poles. You’ll be happy you did, especially coming down post-summit. Enjoy. Have fun. Take lots of pics. It’s a wonderfully challenging experience.

Just completed the 7 day Machame Route with Ax Ventures/Keys Tour and Nelson Dellis of Climb4Memory. Ascend for 5 days then midnight summit day and down for 1.5 days. It is physically demanding and mentally taxing especially on summit day, but it was such a wonderful feeling being on Africa’s Penthouse (haha. Coining that term!), you have to want it and conquer it! Highly recommended for avid hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. I’m exhausted but loved it.
