Please note: trail is reportedly closed due to a landslide. Beautiful trail through the mountains that follows an old Japanese police route from 80+ years ago. Steep climbs on both ends (particularly from the east/south trail head) with a ridge running/contouring trail in the middle. Fantastic overlooks into and across the mountains and you also walk through 3 ruins from old settlements of the natives (these are not particularly impressive, but have informative signs). Parts of the trail are narrow and steep and require the use of chains/ropes that have been installed for this purpose. Nothing technical but some careful footwork is needed.

As of January 17, 2020 this trail is not closed. It is quite well maintained. It is the Lushui Trail that is closed due to a landslide. I gave this trail a 3 because I feel it should be rated hard, not moderate. There are very steep sections with accommodating ropes and chains for handholds. Several sections that were more butt scoot scrambling than hiking. Most of the trail is in the forest with several nice openings with good vistas. Saw several family groups of monkeys and a small deer.
