We did the trail starting at Kleine Scheidegg, then climbing up to Eigergletscher, and then heading down to Alpiglen. The trail was underwhelming, at least at this time of the year (late September), with a few patches of dying green, the occasional flower, a couple of sections of partially snow-capped mountains, a few small waterfalls, and lots of rock and pebble. There was no wow moment, and this felt more like a workout hike than one where you're in the midst of exquisite scenery. We were originally going to head to Grindelwald after reaching Alpiglen, but decided to cut our losses and stop the hike early. I'd normally give this a three star hike, but given the opportunity cost (lots of beautiful hikes in this area, especially on a sunny day like this was), I'm downgrading it to a 2/5.

We hiked this trail from Eigergletscher down to Alpiglen and then back up to Eigergletscher. If you are looking for peaceful serenity and solitude, do not hike this hike. As other have indicated, there is construction being done on/near the trail at Eigergletscher and helicopter carrying cement buckets and big huge cranes cause tons of distractions and noise pollution. The Eiger, Moch and Jaungfrau are wonderful but are nullified by the noise and many people. We were disappointed and felt that the hike was totally commercialized.

We started the trail after taking train from Grindelwald Grund station to Eigergletscher and started trekking down back to Grund station. The views are spectacular. Cascading waterfalls and giant mountains adorn the Eiger trail. Trail is easy to follow. if you are hiking up, this will be a hard hike.

A wonderful hike. Extra special if you’ve read climbing histories of the Eiger (recommend the white spider, Eiger dreams, the climb to hell) awesome hike.

We hiked up from Alpiglen to Kleinstegg. We were in Fog the entire time. The detour due to construction had no sign and was very slick and dangerous. The scenery was obscured by the fog. I would not embark on this trail if weather is not perfect

Very steep for the first few miles. We didn’t get a super early start, so the clouds covered the main peaks by the time we got to Kleine Scheidegg. Even without the full view, it was spectacular!

We took the train to the top and did the decent. There is construction at the top so the trail has been altered... potentially permanently. Still great views.

Loved the mix of terrain and stunning views. Went July 1 and some short stretches still had a bit of snow. Very few other hikers. Went from Eigergletscher stop to Alpiglen and had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant.

Amazing hike at the feet of Eiger's North Face, looking at the rocks and passages that made the history of this wonderful wall.

this hike was amazing!! went the beginning of october and had perfect weather. i suggest going early so you are alone on the trail - so peaceful. i thoroughly enjoyed hiking bottom up. we took the train to alpigen and then hiked up to the Kleine Scheidegg station. this was cheaper and 30 mins more walking than catching the train at eigergletscher. overall took 2.5-3 hrs hiking with a 15 minute lunch break.

Stunning view of the Eiger and Grindelwald down there. Easier to hike downhill from Eigergletcher train station to Alpigen station. You’ll have the North Face of Eiger, a very tall 90 degree cliff shooting up in the sky on your right, and the green of hills around Kleine Scheidegg on your left. Most sections of the trail are green, while some are more rocky.

Great walk again after doing it 20 years ago. Shame the opening stretch was closed, but detour was fun.
