Näsumaleden conveys to it´s many ancestors from distant time a historical feeling. The Näsumaleden Trail is a 24 km car-, bike and hiking trail – most on unpaved roads. Follow the marked trail and let the landscape around you bear witness to the geological dramas that unfolded here 1,700 million years ago, when the peaks of Ryssberget and Västanåberget were thrust up and the area’s remarkable minerals were formed. Eons later, the Ice Age created new natural wonders at Östafors. Along the Näsumaleden Trail among hills and dales, prehistoric graves and a medieval village tells the story of the region’s earliest human inhabitants. Västanåberget offers us a taste of deep forests interspersed with small meadows, pastures and stone walls. In the valley of Sibbarpsdalen you encounter a landscape that has developed through a long history of agriculture and cattle-raising. Along the river there are rushing waterfalls and the ruins of old mills, but also quieter stretches, meandering through abandoned and overgrown meadows dotted with lopped trees. This was once a centre for hops and fruit-growing, and it is here that you will find Sweden’s only remaining house for drying hops.
