Monte Abantos vía GR 10 is a 6.9 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Community of Madrid, Spain that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult.
Went up the mountain from San Lorenzo de El Escorial at the end of November. There's an oasis with cowbells and a drinking fountain at the top. Incredible views. If you get up there it's certainly worth your while to follow the stone-wall border with Castille-León over the back of the mountain to see the eerie tomb of the dictator in the valley on the other side.
It took us about 4-5hours but we were constantly stopping to take pictures and videos, plus we stopped to have a break for about 30min. The first 6-7km is constantly going up. Later you always go down-so you are stopping yourself, which is quite annoying for the rest of 4-5km. We did it on the 1st of November and was it beautiful, the trees around so colorful and it wasn’t too hot. Even quite cold on the peak! Certain points had really beautiful view from the up there. Half day mid-dificult route.
