To the north of Sierra Nevada, just at the foot of the Lavaderos de la Reina and Picón de Jerez and in the ravine that forms the Alhama River, is one of the most exceptional mixed forests of Andalusia, the Dehesa del Camarate. Look for the maple trees, oak trees, wild cherry trees and apple trees, mostajos, rowan trees and at the bottom of the ravines a rarity, the hawthorn. All this variety requires a different microclimate from the surrounding areas. In order for the forest to survive, it needs heavy annual rainfall. People love this area for the sensational symphony of reds, yellows, ochres and greens that covers the forest in autumn.
