NOTE: This trail is closed for remediation from mid-January to mid-February. Please contact the park before attempting this hike. Great hike in the city. Well marked and amazing 360 degree views. Moderate is the right rating as there are some sections with exposure. More difficult routes with scrambling options available. If you want to find Wally's Cave: go past the first ladder (do not go up it), go the old bench and go DOWN to the LEFT, traverse until you see an opportunity to scramble up to the right. If you go too high you'll end up on a flat lookout with a steep drop off.

My favorite hike with amazing views starting just at its base. Elevation is 2,195′ and peaks at 669 metres above sea level. This hike is best at sunrise or sunset, it is challenging , beautiful and a great accomplishment once at the top. To get to the top you must climb up ladders, chains and staples in the sides of rock. Along the way about 20 minutes you’ll reach the first set of metal ladders on the Lions Head hike. Instead of climbing the first ladder, along the sides you’ll see caves along the old hiking trail one famously known as Wally’s Cave a nice resting spot in the shade with stunning views. Continue up the mountain to the ultimate viewing area with a Lions head sign you can hang off of and other amazing looking points.

Moderate trail, it's busy on weekends it's best to do it during the week. The sunrise view is breath taking in summer. Beautiful views as you go around the mountains. It's a must must do!!!!

Bit of fun towards the end with more scrambling and the chains and handles. Didn't feel too bad to me. There is also alternative route to avoid the chains. Can uber there, and there is free WiFi at the kiosk at the base to uber back if you don't have data. 50 mins to the top for me at a moderate pace.

This is a wonderful hike and the views are amazing. About 15 minutes from the summit there is a ladder followed by a chain. The ladder is fine. The chain is not so fine. Anyone suffering from vertigo should avoid this hike because the path where the chains are is very narrow and a sheer drop. Then there is one more ladder before reaching the summit. That being said, we encountered a man with a 3 year old son and a 6 year old daughter and they go up this trail all the time!!!

Great hike. Up in 30. Down in 30 mins. A bit of running. Incredible views. Uber to the lions head car park and hike it yourself. It’s busy. Some stable footing and climbing skills. Great adventure!!!

Stunning views on Ocean, Table mountain, 12 apostles and city. Quite easy access to the top, even if some rock climbing and ladders close to the arrival. But what is the most painful is ... how crowded the path is. We started at 8:15am, but already a lot of people.

I would recommend partaking in the Full Moon hikes which occur when there is a Full Moon over Cape. You'll have a marvellous experience hiking Lion's Head in the evening (when it's cooler), and breathtaking sunsets and views of the landscape are super easy to see. Bring some wine, and make some friends at the top. Coming down is what is hard about this trail, since much of the highest parts of the trail are accessed by ladders, chains, and metal stairs attached to rock. Be careful, and enjoy!

Short but fun ascent, toward the end there are two sections were there are chains bolted into the rock to lift yourself up a few boulders. Up until that point it is a wide easy well traveled trail. Great views of the city, twelve apostles, Devil's peak, and of course table Mt.

Great hike with amazing views. Some areas need to use staples and vertical ladders and can be expose so be prepared. It is well marked and also very crowded, so much that had to wait in line to go down the staples, but the views at the top is worth it.

This trail has incredible views! It has some difficult scrambling sections as well as a section with metal staples and chain ropes for a vertical climb. You can take your dog, but unless you're ok with carrying your dog up the vertical section, its best to take the alternate trail around to reach the top. I highly recommend this trail but go prepared!

Sunrise hike did not disappoint. Quick 45 minutes to the summit and a lot of people on the trail early so it felt very safe. Definitely do this hike.

Incredible views of Cape Town, surrounding mountains and the coast! There is a spot that allows you to climb some chains. We did. Pretty cool!
