This trail takes you to one of the greatest wonders of Drakensberg Park, the Amphitheater, which is a rock cliff three times larger than El Capitan in Yosemite.

This is a great day hike to do from Thendele. Well marked and not steep.

The first few miles is typical Berg hiking up the valley, through open country and a few forests. The hike should really be called the Gorge hike (as its marked in the reserve’s signs), and hiking up the gorge at the end is a must. You pass through the steep-sided gorge, with spectacular views up to Amphitheatre, and can swim in the pools carved in the rock.

Watch out of flash floods and speak to the rangers before hiking up the gorge though.

We summited the Mount Aux Sources on the 28 January 2018. Its breathtaking to walk until the Ampithetre and the view from the Top its amazing.
