Ben Lomond is one of the most popular Munros, rewarding visitors with fantastic views of the length of Loch Lomond and far into the hills to the north and the Trossachs to the east. The route has been well made, however the return down the Ptarmigan ridge can be muddy and is rocky in places making the going more difficult in poor visibility.

Steep route up but amazing views. I wouldn't reccommend this route up for a beginner! Stick to the other popular way up.

Ran this (well, tried to) as part of a bigger WHW run. I was surprised by how quickly it became very steep. Tough to run. Some sensational views on the way up. The way down is quite tricky at first, but opens up to trails that can be ran easily. Quite a lot of vegetation around clambering over the path, and muddied than the tourist path. Views of Loch Lomond from Ptarmigan onwards are sensational.

Great trail! Especially on a sunny day! Parking for the day costs 3£. Quite busy at the car park - better to start on time. During Covid - festival toilets available with hand sanitizer. The climb is stunning with great views. It can be quite windy up the top (bring some warm/wind/waterproof clothes). We started anti-clockwise. Only steep but was going down from the top. Further the trail is lovely with great views! In total it takes around 4-6h. Depending about your breaks! Enjoy the walk

Hard is certainly accurate. Great views but very steep. Not for the faint-hearted. I did it in fog when you see another hill, there is probably several beyond it before you get to the peak.

The left hand trail is tough - would recommend going up and down the right hand trail. Only take the left if looking for a challenge.

Husband and I went on a rainy evening, started at around 19:15, finished at 23:24. Because it was rainy and misty we didn’t get to see much of the anticipated views- will come back again when weather is great. Overall, it was really fun!

Steep path, with parts that are rocky; it’s not labeled difficult for nothing. Perfect for mountain goats

Hiked the loop counter clockwise. Heavy weather rolled in appox 1 mile from summit. Sideways rain, temps may have slipped freezing. Warm enough in a rain jacket, light puffy, flannel and t shirt. Water found its way into everyone’s shoes. Summit was socked in. 10ft viz. Had a good time hiking this loop. The back end isn’t as technical as expected.

Excellent hike. Stunning views. Highly recommend. Note, midges are pretty annoying (I wish I had brought bug spray). My gps records this as being 7.9 miles total. Be prepared for variable Scottish highland weather. Rain may blow in quickly, and may be cold.

They say it’s about the journey, not the destination, and that’s certainly true for this amazing hike. But the views at the top of the fog blows clear? Celestial. It’s a whale of an 8 mile hike, lots of rocky sections on the way up, and pack clothes for showers and high winds at the top. But so, so gorgeous. It felt like we stopped every 10 minutes on the way up to look at the view, and each time it was even more beautiful. So. Many. Photos. 10/10 would recommend.

Great walk. My first Munro on my own, found it difficult in places but definitely worth the climb!

This is the first hike where I agree with the rating, difficult. I am better going up than down. Took me 2 1/2 up the tourist path and 2 1/2 down Ptarmagan. I am older and don't have the balance anymore coming down so took my time. Views were well worth the effort. Had a clear, bright, warm sunny day. Could not have been better.

I’m from the US. This was beautiful. I was not able to take pictures on the descent. Took 5 hours to complete the loop.
