Mostly level walking. A little climb near end; then a winding drop down to Fort William. While relatively flat, it can be difficult underfoot in places because of water flowing across large segments of the track. You can pick your way over much of it thanks to the rocky terrain but those who are not reasonably sure of foot may struggle in wet weather.

Easy to navigate, good terrain underfoot throughout. Bit of a drag up from Kinlochleven but after that was relatively easy walking although exhausting by the end. Lovely views throughout, really get into the mountains and see them up close. The views to Ben Nevis in particular stood out.

HikingGreat!

You can wild camp at start of the trail, the climb at the beginning is pretty steep and rocky but very pretty! Views of Ben Nevis were gorgeous! Watch the video of this route on my YouTube channel Drunk On Wanderlust

Ran this as part of an extended WHW trip. First few miles are a sharp climb, but once you're up, most of it was runnable. Quite rocky in places and undulating, with great views, especially as you approach Ben Nevis.

I hiked this section back in October 2015, while living in Edinburgh. It was a really fun hike. My buddy and I "wild camped" as they call it there just outside of Kinlochleven and about halfway up Ben Nevis. On the recommendation of some other hikers (some RAF guys doing a charity walk), we took the trail that goes around to the north face of Ben Nevis. The trail is roughly a third of the way up the main trail to the summit. We camped the second night near a small loch on the north trail. We tried to go to the top of Ben Nevis the next day but didn't find the trail going up in time and had to hike down to Fort William. The trail overall is pretty easy and flat until Ben Nevis, and the hike up isn't too grueling with a full pack. Highly recommend this trail. Both Kinlochleven and Fort William are nice towns to stay in, and Scots are really nice people.

Amazing views, varying weather and terrain. Loved seeing the sheep grazing along the trail.

I walked the trail in reverse (Fort William to Kinlochleven). Past the Ben Nevis Centre the track begins, climbing up on a gradual ascent along a logging road for about an hour. It is then gently undulates through the mountains with some amazing views along and through the valley. While relatively flat, it can be difficult underfoot in places because of water flowing across large segments of the track. You can pick your way over much of it thanks to the rocky terrain but those who are not reasonably sure of foot may struggle in wet weather.

After seeing such amazing scenery we were so sorry to discover the closer we got to Fort William that deforestation is taking place. Tree stumps and stacked logs everywhere. Nice hike to start; then no shade at all to get into town. We followed recommendation to get off the road and take the meadowy route. Fort William is a nice town filled with those finishing or starting the hike so lots of fun.
