Arguably the most popular hike on the island. The "Old Man" himself is the iconic rock jutting into the air, visible from miles away. Many films have featured this landscape as their backdrop, which is well-deserved as it is awe-inspiring to see in person. There are fierce winds at the top, so be prepared.

HikingGreat!

Beau parcours, bien faire le tour du old man car d’en bas, il ne se détache pas de la falaise

It’s an alien deposit! Really very cool. There is construction on the trail at the moment which means about a mile up you’ll have to bypass main route through a mucky mess. My hike day was fine weather so not too bad but I imagine on a rainy day you’ll be gushing through. Once up to the pillars, Old Man Storr ++, poking around is sheer delight. Quite other-worldly and absolutely worthwhile!

We hiked this at dusk in July 2020, while everything was just starting to open back up, so it was fairly quiet, we saw maybe 10 other people the entire time. There is work going on to create a proper trail, so be prepared for a lot of mud. It took just under 2 hours even though we accidentally got a little off trail at the top. A super popular spot, so we were lucky to see this cloudy, moody, and dramatic scene with hardly any people around.

Beautiful hike. Went on a slightly rainy day but the trails were not muddy and still easy to navigate. One of the most picturesque trails we did in Scotland.

Not too difficult a climb but it was fairly muddy so bring your hiking boots! Well worth it all for the views at the top - we climbed March time and the snow topped view was breathtaking! Very windy so wrap up warm and dress for every season in one day!

Did this hike in January. It was muddy and there were very high winds. The views were worth it, and the snow squalls at the top quickly covered the landscape, making the scene quite stunning.

We only planned on going to the famous viewpoint where everyone turns around. Once we got there we noticed a small trail that leads over a fence and behind the mountain. Deciding to explore a little we ended up climbing completely to the Summit. SO WORTH IT! If you are able, definitely do the whole hike and don’t turn around at the first viewpoint. Only two very small scrambles and the rest is a very leisurely walk!

Beautiful day. Timed it perfect with the weather...not a cloud in the sky. Trail is quite muddy in a lot of parts, though, so be prepared for that. Frost was there and snow isn’t far away.

Did it in the rain and the hail. Could imagine the beauty on a nice day with some sun. Heavily trafficked.

Steep incline one mile up. Take a few pics and work your way down. Nice little walk.

Crowded, especially in the lower sections, but the payoff higher up is worth it. At one point we veered off trail, got away from most of the people, and got some really nice views and solitude. If you look at the trail map, going up to the top and around looks to be totally do-able, we just decided not to do it today.
