Loved it!! So beautiful and a bit of an incline at the end but worth it

Ascent steep and long, beware of pebbles that can drag! Otherwise quite feasible in good weather and with all levels

This was a great little hike with a lot of views. My eight-year-old daughter made it up to the old man no problem. It seem like a lot of people didn’t go the extra 200 yards at the end to make it up there. Be aware, there is no one trail as there are lots of little trails everywhere so it’s easy to get off the recommended AllTrails route. Don’t let the swarm of midges at the trailhead deter you.

Look, this is a great hike. As you can see from my recording it is tough to tell the hikes on the ground from the master hike, but it’s still amazing when you get it done. We had an 8 year old and a 10 year old and we got up to the old man rock. Get there early and bring bug spray!

We arrived at 7am in the morning and had to pay 3 pounds for parking on the side of the road. We started our rapid ascent up the trail. The first part of the trail is well defined. As you reach the top of the trail, it is less defined and has several secondary trails made by hikers and sheep. The trail was quite muddy at the top so care should especially be taken on the way down. The views from the top are amazing. We completed the hike in about 2 1/2 hours which included about 30 minutes at the top taking in the views. On the way back down the trail, there were many, many people on the way up. I would definitely suggest going early or late.

Absolutely beautiful hike! The first part of the trail has been clear cut to get rid of invasive coniferous plants and then replant native broadleaf plants. If you're concerned about parking, delay your like until after 2 PM. There was loads of parking later in the afternoon. I was there earlier and parked a bit up the road and then hiked to the traihead. It wasn't a bother, I was there to hike anyway.

Beautiful hike and certainly deserving of its status as the most iconic hike on Skye. The parking situation is a disaster though. The local council has started ticketing anyone who parks on the east side of the road. The only notice of this is a sign partially hidden in the bushes leaning against the fence by the gate at the start of the trail. Unless you're lucky enough to snag one of the few legal parking spots on the west side of the road, you're pretty much stuck paying the £30 parking ticket or else parking miles down the road. Too bad the council is more interested in collecting fines than building more parking to solve the problem.

It's achievable but you have to consider the weather can get quite windy It's a great view from the top
