This is a circular walk around Harlaw reservoir, a small reservoir in the Pentland Hills. Harlaw reservoir was constructed 1843-48 in front of the larger Threipmuir Reservoir, 7.5 miles (12 km) southwest of Edinburgh. It was built 1843-48 for the Edinburgh Water Company by their engineer James Jardine (1776 - 1858), but is no longer involved in public water supply. The Harlaw and Threipmuir reservoirs now provide essential upstream flood storage to prevent flooding of the Water of Leith, and many rainbow trout for local anglers.
