This is one of the better walks in Madeira. The extreme eastern tip of the island consists of a long, extensive peninsula called Ponta de São Lourenço. In the winter months this is overgrown with moss but in the summer everything is completely dry. The path has some steep climbs, especially the climb to the viewpoint after you have passed the Casa da Sardinha. But your effort is ultimately rewarded with a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean. The way back takes almost the same path and takes about the same amount of time.

Very nice hike, especially when the sun plays hide and seek with the clouds, otherwise it can be very hot.

Trail is longer when going up to Pico do Furado. Great views of the high cliffs. Hight of Pico do Furado is incorrect!! It shows 12 mtrs. it must be at least 178 mtrs.

absolute stunning views. I highly recommend this one! Use proper shoes, as declining can be slippery.

Easy but lot of steps. Take a lot of water because it could be very hot and there is nothing on this place. Views are magic!

Great trail and easy to walk but many steps up and down so be prepared and bring walking poles if you feel uneasy in such surroundings. View is spectacular!

Easy and very scenic trail that expose the shore cliffs of the island over green and yellow hills. Take your time and enjoy the numerous viewpoints. Very accessible, so in early morning to have the spot for yourself and enjoy a real moment of pleasure.

Amazing views. Trail is slightly longer if you choose to go up the hill behind the café.

It’s more like 6-7 miles round trip if you go to the end (past the cafe). Loved it

This has to be my favorite hike of them all so far—I loved the trail, you get a mix of terrain but defined paths. Elevation is a nice steady flow of up hills and down hills. Definitely a great trail to run on if you go early in the day aka before 10. Go early for the sunrise. Even if you go around 8 you’ll still be fine. It doesn’t start getting crowded until 10-12. There are a couple of beaches you can trek down to(there are stairs/defined paths, we didn’t see the first path for the first beach until our way back). There is also a little snack shack before heading up to the summit but please be aware there will not be a bathroom for you to use and they do not accept credit cards so take euros!!! They have water/drinks/pastries/sandwiches..and shaded seating.

Pretty amazing view and a unique scenery and landscape compared to the rest of the island. Five stars

Pretty hike, fairly easy. It's about 4 miles out and back to a lookout on the peninsula. Just navigate out to the very end of ER 109 to find the trail head. Start looking for parking on the side of the road just before you get there. It's a bit touristy but the views of the water and lava rock were lovely, as were the wildflowers in May. We finished this one in 2-2.5 hours.
