This map is totally wrong. That's one thing that you cannot go around as the tunnel is closed, but more importantly the red line misses out the "25 Fontes" which is the main waterfall and attraction on this hike. We got lost twice because of this badly drawn hike map. Don't follow what the app says just look at the signs or ask the locals. The waterfall itself is very beautiful and worth the walk.

Sorry, but after when you passed tunnel, you must go back, because that road not used for ages, so dangerous, I start to pray that God help us to rich our car. I recommend to everyone just go back to beginning of tunnel and you gone found stairs to the coffee shop, the one is on nearly half way from beginning trail

The trail was linear because it was blocked off at the turn after the waterfall. It doesn’t have many lookouts and is very steep.

Unique Trail! We followed the route the entire way. The beginning is very simple with breathtaking scenery. The walks along the lavadas make the path really picturesque. The water fall is amazing- bring your swim gear and dive in the cold water. Walking through the tunnel is a highlight of the tour. The pathway behind the tunnel up to the starting point is difficult to find and almost non existing (see other reviews). However, we still hiked up the trail back to our car. I would only recommend that part to very adventurous people

WalkingMuddy

a sunny and cloudy day with a cold win chill. Very boggy under foot but the views were great. Approached by some long horned cattle so staying cool and calm was called for. Nice flat'ish walk with 2 dogs (one almost blind), long grasses and some uneven ground but walk was enjoyed by all.

Pretty easy walk with some stairs in places - I didn’t follow the map on this app as I went with a group and followed the the signposts to the Risco waterfall and 25 Fontes, which are very well marked. Be sure to make use of the shortcut when leaving 25 Fontes as this is there to ease congestion along the levada - there’s a fair bit of 2-way traffic and some narrow sections/steep drops so it’s important to be courteous on the trail and give people space. Watch out for low hanging branches (I cracked my head a couple of times) and be sure to admire the views! We headed back via the tunnel but had arranged for a pickup so didn’t have to worry about getting back to the start point.

get yourself to the casa do rabacal. follow any one of the 25 fontes signs. shorter the distance strenuousness increases. go all the way one way.....no turning around. then head back the way you came from and up the stairs marked casa da rabacal. this map in all trails is not as good in my opinion. then theres a mini bus that will take you back to the parking lot

I would strongly suggest to follow the map only to the waterfalls and return the same way. We tried to follow the map. The path after the falls was not maintained, steep and, in some parts, dangerous. The path after the tunnel is non-exiting and we landed up following the signs to Calheta and waking along the highway to get to the car. Having said that., the section of the trail to the falls was beautiful.

This specific trail is not accurate with the arrow signs!! We followed the exact path expressed in the app and it is really demanding ( sometimes using legs and arms to climb). Definitely not 7.9 km. and we did it in 4 hours and half. Being said that, the trail is amazing! specially if you go to Risco and see the waterfall. The rabaçal tunnel is 1km without lights! so I advise to bring some sort of light ( telephone lights is enough).

Hiking

Easy scenic walk. I didn’t download the map so I didn’t do the exact course but highly recommended.
