This hike will take you on a circular route in Faial da Terra. It begins near the bus stop. Go up the asphalted road until the fork where you should continue straight by a dirt road, always along the left bank of the stream. The vegetation is thicker and there are several orchards on both banks of the creek along the trail. There are winding roads in paving stones, please be very careful due to its slippery ground. You will have to cross a bridge over the stream to get to Salto do Prego. On the way back, return by the same way, and then follow right on the second fork towards Aldeia do Sanguinho, an old village.

Good trail, waterfall is really nice. Would definitely take the upper trail on the way back. It’s a little longer and has more uphill but village and downhill switchbacks are interesting.

Really pleasant hike to do. It has a nice waterfall (Salto do Prego), some friends always welcoming food (wild chickens and cats) and a really cute village apparently lost in the nature (Sanguinho), that surprisingly had a café open that we used as shelter from the pouring rain. You won't regret it ;)

Très belle randonnée, à faire sans hésiter ! Une belle cascade et un beau village à voir. Ne pas hésiter à prendre de bonnes chaussures car la chaussée est souvent boueuse et glissante.

great hike. the waterfall, forest and the old village provide a great variety. (there are no boring parts along roadsides). I think the climbing part is not to heavy.

Walking in the forest near the river, it's muddy but very beautiful. The waterfall is majestic.

Wonderful hike. The trail begins at the upper edge of the town of Faial da Terra. At the beginning of the hike there was a dozen or so goats grazing on grass by the edge of the river, we stopped to watch them for awhile. The trail then follows the river up the valley, but the climb is extremely manageable. It's a short trip up to a majestic waterfall tucked away in the forest. I recommend taking the loop counterclockwise, so that your return trip takes you through the abandoned village inhabited by cats. Going this way will also leave you with a final descent down a steep, winding, cobblestone road with gorgeous views of the valley, town, and ocean below. It's a popular hike and crowded hike, but for good reason.

We hiked this trail in fair weather today. A few notes: 1. I was not very impressed with the available photos but the trail IS really beautiful. Make sure to approach the trailhead from south of the island and you will get a cool view at the cliffs. 3. In dry weather you MUST hike the loop. The formerly abandoned village and the brick road connecting it with the town are amazing! 2. That being sad, I would advice against hiking the loop in rainy weather as it has a lot of steep sections with inclined brick ground that I imagine to be crazy slippery when wet. 4. Based on Alltrails rating (which is a bit silly) I would rate the trail as moderate instead of easy because of the constant elevation change. 4. The trail was definitely worth the more than an hour approach. We were located in Ponta Delagada.

would rate this hike more moderate than easy. a lot of up and down, not much flat areas, and the path has a lot of spots with uneven rocks. gets a little humid, too. beautiful hike, though. the waterfall at the end is worth it. people were going into the water but was ice cold in august. there was a fair number of people at the waterfall. there is a dirt area to park a couple cars at the trailhead (head further north from the trail map/info sign), but most cars were just parked on the side of the road.
