This trail begins and ends near Santo António Chapel. The descent is via a narrow path and some old stone steps. Be careful on very wet days because the surface can be slippery. From the trail you get a magnificent view over Fajã de Além, Fajã do Ouvidor, Fajã da Ribeira da Areia, and when visibility is good you can see  the islands of Terceira and Graciosa. Once at Fajã (fertile ground formed from the fall of rock and other debris) explore as you like.  This “Fajã” has changed little in modern times and still has traditional wine cellars (adegas), a watermill, small family farms and a very hospitable local community. Once you have completed your visit your return climb is from the other side of the faja. Once you reach the main road go right for about 1 km until you return to where you set out.
