This trail starts next to Mata do Canário, ends in the parish of Sete Cidades. It starts on a tarmacked road (about 100 metres) that descends next to an aqueduct and gets as far as Muro das Nove Janelas (Nine Windows Wall). Here turn to the left to an unpaved track. This part of the trail ascends to the highest point of the northern hillside of Sete Cidades’ Blue Lake. Continue, contouring the lake until you reach a bifurcation.  Here, turn to the left and descend to the parish of Sete Cidades, where the trail ends. On several points of the trail you will enjoy a panoramic view of Sete Cidades lakes. This trail runs through a zone classified as Protected Landscape and, for this reason, we all have not only the responsibility of contributing to its protection, but also of ensuring its biodiversity through the conservation of this natural habitat.

I started the trail from the Boca de Inferno and walked the trail towards the West to reach this trail. This trail is very wide open so there isn't any brush to walk through. The trail is mainly a carriage trail that is shared with cars, quads, and bikes. That's what too away the ambience for me. On the bright side, the views are beautiful. The trail is decorated by various flowers such as daffodils and hydrangeas. There's a different view from the top of the lake. And you'll meet happy cows along the way. Word of caution: Close to the end of the trail is a steep decent which I'd label as difficult. Luckily it was dry the day I did the hike. I imagine it be very hard if it was wet.

Great, fairly easy trail all the way around the lake. Steep at the end, but was dry for us, so not bad.

Steep incline and decline to get on to the ridge and into the village. Views on the ridge around the lakes are beautiful. Stop halfway for lunch which was lovely. Great views and good workout!!

We parked the car close to Lagoa do Canario and started by visiting the little lake and the miradouro Boca do Inferno to see the big lakes from the top. Then we turned back to the path which was mostly an offroad driveway, easy and mainly flat. Being lucky with the weather we had amazing view over the lakes and to the sea all the way. We reached the village of Sete Cidades and took the taxi back to the car (3€ per person). Be careful with the last descent till the village because it was quite steep and slippery.

Unfortunately we hiked when it was cloudy and were unable to see the lake until the very end of the hike. We left our car at the trailhead and taxi’d back (15 euros). The taxi runs like a shuttle back and forth and you can find it outside of restaurant São Nicolau.

We started the hike using the hike to go to the Miradouro Boca do Inferno. then we cut and went on this trail. Walking on top of the mountain was awesome. Very nice view. Be careful on the last descent, it could be slippery.

Not sure where exactly we started the hike, but it ended up being about 7 miles and ended at the Parish of Sete Cidades. Another absolutely phenominal hike. The views of Lagoa Azul are amazing. Lots of hydraingas, cows, etc. Tip: Stop for a cold beer and/or ice cream in the town; need to stage a car or take a cab from the Parish. Sunscreen, hat, plenty of water recommended - no shade.

One of the best hikes you can find on the São Miguel Island! Beautiful views over Sete Cidades and its lake.

Extremely beautiful hike around the rim and down to Sete Cidades. Easy as it mostly goes downhill if you just go one way. We used two cars. It was unclear to us whether there was an easy way of going from the town to the beginning of the hike.
