Description
Waypoints (0)

This trail starts at Vista do Rei viewpoint, ends in the parish of Sete Cidades. It starts on the western side of Cumeeira da Caldeira das Sete Cidades (Caldeira’s highest point). On this part of the trail you can observe the following: on your right-hand side Caldeira Seca and Sete Cidades lakes and on your left-hand side the western coast of S. Miguel island. Follow this unpaved track until you reach a tarmacked road that links Mosteiros to Sete Cidades. Go to the right and descend as far as you have an unpaved track on your left. Go along this track until you find a bifurcation. This is the point where this trail crosses trail PR-4-SMI. Here turn to the right and descend to the parish of Sete Cidades. This trail runs through a zone classified as Protected Landscape and, for this reason, visitors have not only the responsibility of contributing to its protection, but also of ensuring its biodiversity through the conservation of this natural habitat.

I don’t know how this trail is ranked easy. The last stretch Before hitting the lake and village is straight down a dirt road that is slippery steep rutted and washed out by recent rains. The trail starts along the crater rim- is wide and easy, but to see a view you have to climb up a foot to see over the side walls.

Great views from the ridgeline. Suggest making it a loop by starting in Sete Cidades, ascending to the ridge, descending at Vista do Rei, then hiking along Lagoa Verde to the bridge then back into town for coffee and cake at Casa de Chá....12km/7.5mi

Amazing views! Was not a huge fan of the fact that a good distance of the trail was on or next to the road, but had to give 5 stars because of the views the entire way. Simply stunning. We stopped at the cafe for a good hour and enjoyed ourselves and then extended the trail through the town past the church and on the road back up to meet with the original trail. The ending of my recording probably looks crazy—I left it on when we explored the abandoned hotel. FYI—The hotel has been purchased and I think they are going to try to reopen(seems like maybe a waste)? Anyhow, if you want to explore there will most likely be workers there until the afternoon on weekdays. We weren’t able to check it out before we started the hike(I was worried we weren’t going to be able to at all) but they were gone by the time we finished around 3:30.
