This trail begins in Feteiras de Baixo, by the regional road, and ends in Anjos. You start the trail by descending a road that continues along a beaten earth track. It will take you to the top of a hillside, where you will be able to enjoy a view over the wide ocean. Continue to the right, towards Baía do Raposo. Follow the signs that will indicate a descent by the hillside. This trail, widely used as access to fishing spots, was once used as access to the watermills. Nowadays, the watermills lie in ruins. This bay is classified as Geo-sítio (sites with geological interest). The presence of lava flows with columnar or prismatic disjunction at the top of Ribeira do Engenho's southern hillside and the presence of marine and terrestrial conglomerates and alluviums, are examples of the island's geological richness. During the hillside ascent, you might enjoy some species of the natural flora, such as pau-branco (Picconia azorica), candleberry myrtle (Morella faya) or the Pericallis malvifolia and introduced species, such as Victorian box (Pittosporum undulatum), giant reed (Arundo donax), century plant (Agave americana). You migh observe and hear some birds, such as the buzzard (Buteo buteo rothschildi), common blackbird (Turdus merula), chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs moreletti), goldcrest (Regulus regulus sanctae mariae), canary (Serinus canaria) ou the robin (Erithacus rubecula). On the return to the top of the hillside, continue the trail through a dense forest area that will take you to Barreiro da Faneca that should be contoured by its left side. In this area you will find an arid and clayey land, with gentle slopes and reduced drainage density, located in a highly altered lava flow of Pico Alto Complex. The signs will guide you towards Baía da Cré, also classified as Geo-sítio, due to its high and steep slopes. Continue until you reach Lugar dos Anjos, where Santa Maria Island's settlement history is marked by the presence of a small chapel, probably the first Christian building of the Azores, and also by a statue of the navigator Christopher Columbus.
