Be aware that the section going up on 'rock stairs' can be very slippery if it rained before and wear the right shoes. A little further ahead you will come to some old stone steps that go down the cliff face. The trail is shady here as it goes through a wood of Australian cheesewood (Pittosporum undulatum). After about 3 km you will reach a tarred road where you turn right and after a few metres you will see an arrow pointing the way to a spring where the water is drinkable. The spring is known locally as the ‘bitter water spring”, and comes as a welcome drink at this point on the trail. After about another 300 m turn left onto a beaten earth track that takes you down to Fajã dos Vimes. Once in Fajã you can visit a house with a workshop where handmade bedspreads are still made. In the same house you can savour coffee grown and processed in Fajã itself. Here you can also enjoy a bathe in the waters of the Atlantic.
