Description
Waypoints (0)

Giewont (1,894 m/6214 ft) especially as seen from the north (from Zakopane or Gubalowka) is probably the most recognizable summit in Poland - with its two "humps" and a huge (15m/50ft) metal cross on the summit. The start and end points of this trail are very accessible (trail can be easily hiked in either direction) and since they both lay within the city of Zakopane, it is also quite easy to get from the end point to the start point after the hike by taxi. During off-season the foot traffic should be very tolerable. However, it is understandable that in the summer months, especially on the weekends with nice weather, that the number of hikers on the trail could be overwhelming. The trail is not that difficult (though it could be a bit strenuous at some points), except for the 200 meters, or so just before the summit, where it involves climbing rocks on rather narrow ledges (chains/cables installed). The views from the summit are quite spectacular.

loved this hike. I decided last second to do this, only issue is that I didn't have the proper hiking equipment. I at least wished I had my boots. The trip starts going through the woods and past creeks. You are going up a pretty solid incline the entire 3hrs up. When I went, it was foggy and somewhat rainy, so very slippery for the trip up and back down. It does get crowded at some points but it wasn't too bad the time I went. Overall very fun.

Gorgeous hike and just the right amount of intensity (steepness) for a nice, but sporty day trip. The scariness of the last ten or twenty meters to the summit (plus the descent) was unexpected as we had to climb using chains with a decent drop on the other side, but everything went fine in the end.

I came from the Kuznice side, and then after summiting Giewont, went along the ridge to Kasprowy Wierch. Fairly easy hiking in the beginning and middle. It’s a nice rock path all the way up, and then the last kilometer is pretty steep. The view at the top gives you a gorgeous look at Zakopane on the left, which you don’t see at all along the hike I did, as well as the high mountains of the park to your right.

Absolutely love this trail! Disclaimer, do not attempt this trail if you aren’t looking for a good workout. Most of it is quite steep and very rocky. This was my favorite trail in tatra. Breathtaking views of the mountains and forestry. The hike begins at a trail through the woods made of large rocks as steps alongside a stream. At the end of the woods, the trail opens up to an incredible view all along the remaining path to the summit, with offtrail opportunities for rock climbing. (This probably isn’t safe but we did it anyway). Saw some goats, small wildflowers, and a bit of snow at the top. On the other side, lovely views on the rocky path back down into the valley. It rained on our way down, and the rocks became very slippery. Would recommend climbing stick for the descent. Overall, a good workout and breathtaking views.

We tacked on an extra mile to reach the summit at the Slovakian border -- the scenery was much prettier and the area far less crowded than Mount Giewont, though the chain ropes at Giewont were fun!
