Hiking on the Besseggen ridge offers an iconic view shaped by the colorful Gjende and Bessvatnet lakes. Lake Gjende is a stunning emerald green color and is very long and narrow. Lake Bessvatnet is deep blue and is one of the clearest lakes in Norway. Hiking on the Besseggengrat is very demanding. The path becomes extremely difficult in rainy weather. So check the weather forecast and talk to locals and other hikers before you set off. This is the more difficult route than the one-way trip that can be done by boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/norway/oppland/besseggen-ridge

The ridge section was great fun but the lower loop was just a bit OK. Hardly even a pathway most of the time, some good scrambles, but not many good views at that level. We enjoyed it still!
