Hokitika Gorge is a 0.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Hokitika, West Coast, New Zealand that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.

January 19, 2021An easy walk on the loop track. Takes about an hour depending on how long you stop for photos. The first bridge is an old swing bridge and the views are amazing. The colour of the water is breathtaking. The second bridge is longer and newer. Beware of sandflies!! Lots of them. Definitely need the insect repellent. Worth the drive to the gorge.

April 6, 2020Wow. What a beautiful gorge. The colours of the water are amazing. Such a pleasant and easy trail. Walking over the shaky wooden bridge is probably the only uneasy part of you don’t like heights but all in all, very worth it. Definitely recommend to all travellers.
January 12, 2020Lots and LOTS of sandflies. Easy walk to the viewpoint and went for a quick dip before we got eaten to death! Fast water but not too cold even on a rainy day - would recommend

February 21, 2019was pouring rain when I went. the normally blue/turquoise water was grey due to that, but it was a neat quick hike with a cool suspension bridge.
April 22, 2018Great spot, only a short 15-20min walk. The track/carpark are getting a big upgrade this year, the track will soon have two more swingbridges and become an optional hour long loop in addition to the current track.

First to ReviewSuper quick trail though watch out for the bugs at the end! No need for hiking gear. All in all about 20 Minutes back and forth not including time taken for photos!!
