Hike from Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki many many stairs two swing bridges lots of narrow cliff top trails. Not for the faint hearted. Pub at the end at paekakariki is a welcome finish point.

excellent trail, fairly difficult definitely would be a task to do there and back in one day but builds up the fitness

Absolutely great views if the weather is right (but absolutely miserable if it's abnormally windy, so definitely check the forecast before going). This trail climbs above and beside Highway 1, but noise was never a huge issue for us.

Pro tip: if you want to climb up less stairs, the north to south route is the way to go. There are a lot of stairs at the beginning of the south to north route that can make the walk initially difficult, whereas the north to south route starts you off at a steady climb.

Nice views, lots of stairs. There’s a bit of road noise from the track as it runs along hwy 1. Took 2 hours and 45 min to complete. Main negative is having to walk an extra km from the train station in Paekakariki to the start of the track.
