The Pinnacles Track is a 9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Whitianga, Waikato, New Zealand that features a great forest setting and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips.
Spectacular views all along the way! Well marked. Easy to know where the trail was at all times. Definitely a good workout too. Erosion is a bit of a problem at a few of the steeper portions, making for uneven footing, but generally the trail is well maintained. The view at the summit is worth it!
amazing views on the top, medium level difficulty path is well managed
This is one of the best hikes in the north island. There a few options for hikers. If somebody wants to see the sunrise, then suggest to stay the night in the pinnacle hut and go to the pinnacle next day morning. If not this hike can be done within 5-6 hours. Views are absolutely stunning when you reach the top. Even along the way, it was a nice trail through the forest.
Amazing walk . Truly loved it . Took 3 litres of water wasn’t enough on a sunny day . Finished in 5 hrs
Absolutely love this track! Was expecting it to be way more difficult by the way everyone talks about it. But it's not difficult at all and the only struggle may be the last 20mins when the real stairs and ladders start. I'm a fattie and not extremely fit at all and I was able to complete it and be back in my car in 5hrs, including my multiple breaks and stop at the summit, so don't let the stigma scare you. Get it!
Awesome, easier than I expected and well marked track. climb to the top was real challenge but was definitely worth the spectacular view at the top. Surely will do it again.
Beautiful track with the most amazing view at the end. Many stairs and a but of climbing at the end which was quite muddy when we were there (mid June). Took us about 5,5 hours all together including 45 minutes break at the top. For this time of year we felt that if was surprisingly frequented.
Interesting track mostly rocky underfoot. -Watch your footing and ankles. -Rocks can be slippery. -Sunscreen needed. Unless its a perfect week of weather take a raincoat/wind breaker. It was supposed to be 0% chance of rain in the forecast yet it rained... Being quite fit i halved the trail times. 1.5hr to the pinnacles hut and from there 20min to the pinnacles. If your unfit or dont do this often you will take the full time however. Lots of people on the trail at the moment even on a windy rainy day. I will be back to do the billygoat track on a blue bird day i missed the turnoff this time.
Spectacular views all along the way! Well marked. Easy to know where the trail was at all times. Definitely a good workout too. Erosion was a bit of a problem at a few of the steeper portions, making for uneven footing, but generally the trail is well maintained. High, gusty winds (40-50 mph, I estimate) make the final 50 minute climb a bit dicey: take off your hat and anything else that can blow away and stow your hiking poles for that portion. The view at the summit is worth it!
