Blue Spring via Te Waihou Walkway from Whites Road is a 4.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Putaruru, Waikato, New Zealand that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
Beautiful walk! Flat and easy out and back route. Parking is right in front of the trail and you can park in both ends. Best to go on a sunny day to see the blue colors and to go early as it is very popular.
Easy flat walk, mostly dirt path, a few steep steps, but nothing hard. The river runs along the path pretty much the whole way. At one point you come to a bridge, you can either go over it or carry straight on. If you go over the bridge you re-connect with the main path further along. Stunning little area around the water wheel. Beautiful blue/green water. We did the walk on a Tuesday and there were only a few other people but I would imagine the weekends could be busy in the summer. We did the walk from car park to car park 5km one hour each way
This hike is PHENOMENAL! It's worth it to do the whole thing from road to road. The waters of the river are so blue, and the hills and the pastures are so idyllic you feel as though you're in a dream. One of the best hikes around. Do it.
This trail was nice and easy, relatively flat. It offered areas of shade. It was clean and well marked. At one point you'll come to a bridge that takes you over the stream to the other side of the trail which for us was confusing. We thought we were going away from the end because everyone else continued straight ahead. Needless to say, both sides rejoin eventually. We walked a bit over 5 miles total, out and back it took us maybe 3 hours. We like to stop and enjoy nature a bit. It was a descent amount of people on the trail but plenty of times we were alone allowing others to pass. It was easy to keep our distance but we still had our masks just in case. Definitely recommend this breathtaking hike.
Easy trail with some steps. Lots of families and children but no dogs allowed.
Lovely hike! I did the longer trail and it took over farmlands, some bridges and this amazing jungle like environment before it arrived at the blue springs! Worth doing the longer hike if you have the time or if you are coming from the entrance closer to the blue springs, go past the blue springs and continue until you get to the little area of rapids with the wheel!
This trail is fantastic. You trek through some really picturesque farmland and then feel like you're walking into some magic fern gully-like area when the river visuals really begin to pick up. The last 10-15 minutes are so beautiful that it feels fake. One of my favorite easy/moderate trails.
