This is an amazing track. Lots of stairs and some sections are quite steep. Lots of tree roots, mud, and large step ups/downs. Poles are highly recommend if you are shorter. Park at the Kaiauai car park, take that to Kokowai Track, that connects with Holly Hut track past the section that is closed due to a slip. There is a side trip about 40 min from Holly Hut to Bells Falls- so worth it! https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/taranaki/places/egmont-national-park/things-to-do/tracks/pouakai-circuit/

Gorgeous, 100% worth the never ending stairs. The trip to bell’s falls from holly hut is definitely worth the detour. We experienced torrential downpour on the first 3 or so hours of the tramp, I had never witnessed nature in such full force, with wind gusting nearly knocking me over and rain creating little pools in my eyes for my contact lenses to swim in. Definitely thankful that I packed gear for rain. The views were astounding, even though I felt like I was going to croak at several points in the trip. Having folks that didn’t mind taking breaks with me was great. Feeling proud after this one. try to catch the sunrise at the tarn by the Pouakai hut- unbelievable!!

I did this circuit back in January. Don’t get caught out - I left some vital gear at home and the weather turned to custard on the 2nd day when I was hiking out. It’s a mountain - come prepared! Side trip down to Bells Falls is worth the detour

This walk was amazing, unfortunately I went on a day with awful weather and didn't see much but it was a great challenge. Definitely possible to do it in a day, it took me 6hrs, although I was tired at the end! Would definitely recommend.

This tramp was amazing. Lots of stairs and some sections are quite steep. Coming down past Henry Peak towards the visitors centre was very rough. We stayed in Holly Hut the first night and walked the second half the next day. 5.5 hours each both days, including the side trip to Bells Falls. It took us about 3.5 hours to get from the Kaiauai car park to Holly Hut. If you park at the visitors centre it supposedly adds an extra 90 min at the start and end.
