Note: You have to pay 2$ at the beginning at the track. Three and a half hours up to the best view in Lake Wanaka. A challenging walk, but worth the effort! The area is closed October 1 - November 10 every year for lambing season. Although the trail is wide with no steps/technical difficulties, it is very steep, giving it a hard rating.

Really well formed, flat and wide path, I didn’t even wear my boots (wore a pair of trail runners) and was sweet as a nut. It’s not a hard walk at all, for how high you climb it’s relatively flat if that makes sense, a slow climb. The views are stunning, highly recommend getting up early and trying to get at least half way up for sunrise.

Awesome track, totally worth it. Nice views all the way. The route is very easy to follow, even maintenance car goes there. Steady steep, could be windy - there is no shade. I did it in 1 hour and 40 minutes to the top fast walk. And back to the carpark in 1 and 10 minutes - occasionally running.

amazing views, try to do it outside of peak tourist times as you'll be waiting for ages for your turn to take pic. definitely one of the harder hikes I've done. I ended up taking my shoes off towards the end as my feet were burning from the downhill slog

An amazing hike but definitely one to take your time with. We started before sunrise to make it above the clouds to see it, and that took about 2.5 hours with a moderate pace and several breaks. We sweated all the way up but were SO thankful to have our coats at the top as it was was 1500+m high and quite windy., even with the sun shining on us. Clouds didn't clear for us today but still got a great view of the mountains in the distance among a sea of clouds. Took about 1h45m down because the steepness is so hard on your knees! Make sure to bring plenty of water and spare TP, as the bathroom near the viewpoint wasn't stocked and the aroma of cow poop might make you feel like you have to go too.

Lots of mixed reviews, I found this trail very hard. It can be busy with lots of switchbacks and steep. Lots of shortcuts have been walked out but still steep and tiresome. The final stretch after the instagram photo spot I found the hardest again just as it’s all up hill. Views were amazing and incredible over Wanaka but beware that the steepness means the way down can be just as painful!!

Great sunset view. Luckily the clouds lifted and had a view of the city and all around!

Don’t let a gloomy, cloudy day stop you!!! We walked through the cloud and reached the sun about a third of the way up. It was magical, so beautiful and different from every other hike. It’s steep and constant but amazing

Easy to find but parking can be tricky as it is a very busy trail. Well marked track but consistently steep right the way to the top so not to be underestimated. No shelter so sun screen is necessary. Take plenty of water and snacks!

Great day hike! Easy track to follow along however hard with the constant incline, literally you’re going straight up. Great views at the top!

Amazing views if you just turn around, all the way up! Once you get to the main viewpoint a different view than what you’ve been seeing all along makes it’s appearance! It’s breathtaking! I did this with a friend and we are both pretty fit, it took us a little over 2 hours to the photo spot, then we went all the way up and back down again. Exactly 5 hours in total. I was huffing and puffing on the way up, and down was not nice on the knees. Today was the perfect weather. I could see it being much colder if the wind was blowing more. Bring layers and be prepared.

This is a very hard hike. Pretty straightforward with a snake path up the mountain with some steep areas The first half of the hike was difficult since there was manure from cow and sheep everywhere in the path. Hard to enjoy the view since I was so focused on not stepping on any. The view closer to the top is amazing. You get the see the other side which you can’t in the checkpoint. The hike down was very hard on the knees. So those with weak knees be prepared and being a knee brace/knee wrap for support

Very challenging trail, straight up on the way to the summit and all the way down to go back. We ran some parts on the way down. We smashed it in less than 4hrs, amazing views from main lookout point(250m before highest point) and plenty of animals around the trail. A must do while in Wanaka. Bring lots of Sun screen cause there’s NO shade.

Beautiful views on the way up. You can do it a way faster than in 3.5 hrs (about 2 hrs plus half an hour if you want to get to the very top).

This trail is a long 3 hour slog of unrelenting uphill. The views from the top make it worthwhile though. I found the Red Tarn in Mt. Aoraki Nat'l Park to be more difficult, as that was all steps to the top while here it's mostly even terrain to the top. Coming down was hard on the legs. Make sure you plan an easy day the day after doing this.
