My wife and I did this with our kids (2 and 4) on our backs for most of it. It MAY be rated easy. But definitely not with 40 lbs on your back. Also felt longer than 3.7 miles. Health app said 5.5. We went clockwise, crossing the bridge at the beginning. Amazing well kept trail through lots of shade next to the river. Some pretty steep sections all the way through. Birds and rapids heard throughout. The waterfall and cabin and views from the top near the lake were the highlights. Loved it!
I did the hike today. Was beautiful weather after having snow the last few days. If you regard easy as a flat walk this hike isn’t for you. The trail is in great condition but steep in places. Beautiful scenery.
I really liked this hike but I recommend starting along the water first. We completed this in under three hours and that was including stopping to take pictures. This hike gives you scenery of the lake, a small waterfall, some wild flower and mountains.
First, this trail is definitely MODERATE on the harder end. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and so worth the effort. There’s a lot of steep uphills, but it pays off with a beautiful view of the lakes. Spectacular scenery on the way up, and good amount of shade. The cabin is also awesome to see near the top, though it wasn’t clear to us where the trail went from there. Walk behind the cabin and you’ll see the bridge. Would definitely do again!
Used an acess off the road. Moderate to easy trail but there is alot of uphilll. Well marked and nice views of streams waterfall. Cabin at the top is interesting
The start point on the GPS was off, but if you are driving away from Queenstown you will see a clearly marked sign (~1-2 km beforehand) on the left hand side of the road for the trailhead and parking. Was going to track the trail but had zero cell service. :(
Very beautiful hike! While the path itself is easy to negotiate (no bouldering required and clearly marked), it is a steep climb. I hike quite a bit and would rate the exertion level a moderate. But well worth the remarkable views! Saw a bit of wildlife too! Highly recommend.
Good views and beautiful scenery, but note that although the path is clearly marked there is quite a bit of uphill walking included in the hike.
